Assistant Director, Primrose School of Fairfax
Position Summary

The Assistant Director supports the School Director in leading the daily operations of Primrose School of Fairfax and ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children, families, and staff. This role helps ensure the successful implementation of the Primrose Balanced Learning® approach while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and professionalism.

The Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in supporting teachers, maintaining compliance with state licensing regulations, assisting with enrollment growth, and building strong relationships with families. This position requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills in a fast-paced early childhood education environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the School Director in overseeing daily school operations to ensure a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment.
  • Help ensure the Primrose Balanced Learning® curriculum is implemented consistently and effectively in all classrooms.
  • Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and school policies and procedures.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build strong relationships with current and prospective families.
  • Conduct school tours, respond to inquiries, and assist with the enrollment process to support school enrollment goals.
  • Support staff management by assisting with scheduling, maintaining teacher-to-child ratios, and coordinating classroom coverage.
  • Observe classrooms regularly to support teachers and maintain high standards of education and classroom management.
  • Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and supporting teachers to promote professional growth and staff retention.
  • Maintain accurate records for students, staff, and licensing documentation.
  • Support marketing initiatives, community outreach, and family engagement activities.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating school events, programs, and celebrations.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional school culture.
  • Serve as acting director when the School Director is not present to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education best practices and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in early childhood education or childcare leadership preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a preschool or childcare setting is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
